    Driver Education

      Page Overview
    • Enrolling in Driver's Education
    • Driver's Education Program
    • Other Driver's Education Opportunities

At some point during your journey through the graduated driver's license program, you may want to take an approved driver's education program. Even though it is not a prerequisite for your learner's permit, an approved program can teach you about traffic rules, build safety habits, and provide you with experience behind the wheel.

    Top Enrolling in Driver's Education

In Arkansas, the Department of Workforce Education oversees the driver's education programming. To learn about enrollment, locations, and registration, call your local school administration.

You can also get in touch with the Department of Education and ask for a schedule of driver's education programs.

    Top Driver's Education Program

The driver's education program is designed to meet state requirements for approved programs. The standards for topics taught, classroom hours, and driving time are the same for all driver's education programs.

Every student must complete 30 hours of classroom instruction, plus six hours behind the wheel driving time and six hours as a passenger observing another driver.

In the classroom, you'll learn traffic rules like merging onto the highway or proper following distance. Many safety topics will be covered; you'll appreciate learning about signaling, alcohol awareness, and braking.

    Top Other Driver's Education Opportunities

You may want to take advantage of other educational opportunities. Self-study is a great way to learn about driving your vehicle while studying in a comfortable environment and at your own pace.

Don't forget: the Arkansas driver's manual is a great resource for study.

Practice is the ideal way to gain experience, a key element in developing your safe driving record. While you have a learner's license, be sure to spend plenty of time driving with a licensed adult in the car.

The driver's education programs offered in Arkansas are well-developed. When you take a course you will be instructed comprehensively so that you are able to learn about safety, equipment, vehicle inspections, alcohol and drug awareness, sharing the road, and even trip planning.
