Top Driver's License or ID Card

Changing your name on your driver's license or ID card is a two-step process. You'll need to move quickly on this, too, as you must give all name and address changes to the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) within 10 days of the change.

To begin, notify the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) of the change. Why? Because Arizona confirms that your Social Security number is linked to your new name before changing your Arizona record. Call the SSA at (800) 772-1213, or visit the Social Security site, for more information about the name-change process.

Give the SSA two days to process your change. Then, head to an MVD office. Bring the document that establishes the name change, such as a wedding certificate, divorce decree, citizenship document, or court order. The MVD will accept originals or certified copies.

The MVD will issue you a corrected license for $4.

Top Registration

To change your name on your vehicle's registration, simply follow the driver's license name-change procedure. In fact, the MVD recommends that you take care of both tasks at the same time.

The MVD will correct your registration for $8.

Top Title

If a lien exists on your vehicle, you will need to receive written permission from the lienholder to change your name on the title.

Otherwise, just complete the name-change section on the back of the title.

Then, go to an MVD office with the needed documents, and the MVD will issue you a corrected title for a $4 fee.
