Colorado allows a 10-day grace period to notify the DMV of an address change, and the ensuing process is free of charge and pretty simple:

• Jot down your new address in the space provided on the back of your existing license.

• Print out or stop by a driver license office and pick up a Change of Address Form (DR2285).

• When completing the form, make sure, if you are a voter, to fill in and sign the appropriate boxes to ensure your voter registration address is switched to the new district.

• Mail the finished copy to the address listed below, or drop it off at any driver license office.

You must notify the DMV within 30 days of changing your address. To do so visit your local county motor vehicle office with proper identification. There is no charge.

Changing your name on a Colorado license is a bit more labor-intensive. It requires an appearance at a driver license office and certified and original (no photocopies) documentation of the name change. Acceptable forms of documentation include:

• Divorce decree, with a case number and official signature

• Court order of name change, with case number and official signature

• Valid military identification

• Valid tribal identification card

• Out-of-state license or identification card

Furthermore, a name change entails the purchase of a new driver license or ID card at the standard fees.
