Lost, stolen, or damaged titles may be replaced by completing the duplicate title form. Take the form to your county tax collector's office. If there was a lien on the vehicle, you'll need to provide proof that the lien has been paid.
Duplicate titles cost $75.25 but that is for an electronic copy; a $2.50 service and handling fee will apply if you want a paper copy, and another $2 fee may also apply if you need to have the lien recorded. The DMV will process your application within five days. You'll then receive your replacement title in the mail.
Not fast enough for you? Some county tax collector offices offer expedited title services where you can get your title on the spot.
If you should stumble upon the original title later, be sure to destroy it or give it to the county tax collector for cancellation.
You may also mail your duplicate title form to your local county tax collector office. Be sure to include the proper paperwork and a check or money order to cover the fees.
