You can get a replacement title for your Georgia vehicle by completing Form MV-1, Title/Tag Application and paying the $8 replacement fee. If you are applying for a replacement title for one you never received, then no fee will be charged. You'll need to complete an Affidavit of a Georgia Certificate of Title Lost in the Mail and attach it to your title application within 60 days of your original application.

All owners listed on the original title will need to go to your local Tax Commissioner's office to complete the application or you'll need to get a limited power-of-attorney from those who can't appear in person.

When reapplying, you'll need to supply the current odometer reading of the vehicle, your current valid driver's license, and proof of insurance.

If you are applying for a title for a vehicle whose loan has been paid off, you'll need to complete a lien release form and submit it with the title application.

Top Name Change

You'll need to provide a copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree, or other court order if your name has changed since your original title application. You'll complete the title application in your new name, but you'll need to provide the proper documentation to show the change.

Top Out of State?

Former Georgia residents may apply for a replacement title at the Motor Vehicle Division or through your previous Tax Commissioner's office.
