Most of us know that the hassle of losing your wallet or purse along with credit cards and identification is nothing short of a major annoyance. Thankfully, the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) makes replacing your ID card or Idaho driver's license relatively easy, whether it is lost, damaged, or destroyed.

The state does not require you to report your lost license to the DMV or to the police. However, if you feel it has been stolen and that someone might be using it fraudulently, consider notifying the authorities to protect your identity. Keep in mind that if your driving privileges have been revoked in any state, your request for a replacement will not be granted.

    Top Residents Currently In State

If you are an Idaho resident and currently in Idaho, you must appear in person at your county driver's license office to obtain a duplicate. Bring along an acceptable photo document to verify your identity.

Be sure to cut up your lost ID card or license should you happen to find it once you have already replaced it. Or simply turn it in to the county office from which you applied for a replacement.

Top Residents Temporarily Out of State

If you are an Idaho resident who is either traveling or living temporarily out of state, and you are not eligible for residency in another jurisdiction, you might have the option to apply for a replacement by mail, as long as your current license or ID is not expired.

Simply download the Duplicate Driver's License form, print it and fill it out. Then include your payment of $11.50 (check, money order, or MasterCard or Visa information; do not send cash), and mail or fax it to:

    • Idaho Transportation Department
    • Driver's License
    • P.O. Box 7129
    • Boise, ID 83707-1129

    • Fax: (208) 334-8586
    • Phone: (208) 334-8735, option 3

If any other state has revoked your driving privileges, the State of Idaho will not replace your Idaho driver's license.
