If you are disabled in a way that requires special parking considerations, you may be eligible for a disabled parking placard or license plates, or, if you are a disabled veteran, you may apply for a disabled veterans license plate.
In order to obtain a disability parking placard or plates, you'll need to submit an original application for disabled parking identification. The application must be signed by a medical professional, such as a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, podiatrist, or chiropractor, licensed to practice in Kansas. The certificate may also be signed by a Christian Science practitioner, if that practitioner is listed in the Christian Science Journal.
Take the completed form to your local county treasurer's office to receive your placard or plates.
Disabled parking permits are issued for both temporary and permanent disabling conditions. The same form is used; the designation of temporary or permanent is to be made by your health practitioner. Temporary placards are valid for a maximum of six months.
The red temporary placards are recognized in all states and in most countries and territories. Call ahead if you're traveling out of the country and prefer solid confirmation.

There is no fee for a disabled parking placard. If you choose to receive a set of disabled license plates, there is a $.50 fee. If you qualify, the Kansas DMV might issue both one hanging placard and one set of disabled license plates, or two hanging placards. Disability license plates are not issued for temporary disabilities.
Disabled parking license plates are issued to Kansas drivers who have a permanent disability. You must submit a completed application, making sure to check the proper place as indicated for disabled license plates. The fee for disabled license plates is $.50.
To apply for disabled veterans license plates, you will need to submit a completed application for disabled veteran's license plate. As long as you have been certified with a 100% disability from a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, you are eligible for these plates.
