We cover topics such as how to order standard and specialty plates in our License Plates and Placards section.

But, here are the answers to some common questions:

Is there someplace to view all the types of plates available?

Yep. The Division of Vehicles has a page listing the different plates. Just click on the link pertaining to a specific plate to learn more information about the plate, including the cost.

How do I renew my plates?

You have four ways to do this: in person, by mail, by phone, or online. See our Registration Renewals section for complete details.

I renewed my plates online, but didn't get the renewal stickers in the mail. What should I do?

First, wait at least 10 days after renewing your registration either online or through the mail. If you still haven't received the stickers, then go to a county treasurer's office where your situation will be examined.

How do I order disability plates and placards?

There isn't a quick answer for this, but we cover the issue in our Drivers with Disabilities section.

Does the state offer antique plates?

Yes. Please see our License Plates & Placards article for information on eligibility and the application process.

Do my license plates expire on the first or last day of the expiration month?

They expire on the last day of the month.

I have personalized plates. Do I need to display both plates on my car?

No. For cars or trucks, you can just use the rear plate.

My plates are in bad shape. How do I replace them?

To replace damaged or lost plates and decals, complete the duplicate plate form. Bring the form, your current registration, and $3.50 to replace your plates to a county treasurer's office. Give the damaged plates to a county treasurer clerk.

My plates were stolen. What should I do?

First, take a deep breath. It's frustrating to have this happen.

Then, file a report with the police. Bring a copy of the police report to a county treasurer's office, along with your current registration. Complete the duplicate plate form and pay the $3.50 replacement plate fee, and you'll have new plates and decals. Hopefully, these will last longer!

Do I have to surrender my Kansas license plates after relocating to another state?

After relocating to a new state you will need to return your Kansas license plates if applying for a property tax refund. Otherwise, you are not required to return your Kansas license plates.

Contact your county treasurer's motor vehicle office for refund information.
