Replacing a Lost Title

Kansas makes it easy to replace a vehicle's title if it has been lost or destroyed.

If your car is clear of any lien on the title, that is, if there is no loan against the vehicle, an no one is holding the vehicle in their name for any other reason, then the replacement the process is a simple as stopping by your local Kansas County Treasurer's Office and completing an application for a lost title. Ask the clerk for Form TR720b, Kansas Manual Application for Duplicate, Secured, or Reissued Title.

When completing the form, please be sure to include all of the following information:

• Vehicle Year

• Vehicle Make

• Vehicle Identification Number

• Owners Name

• Current Odometer Reading

The current fee for a lost title is $10.

The Vehicle identification Number (VIN) can be found on the dashboard of the vehicle, located near the bottom of the windshield on the passenger side. Also look for it inside the engine compartment, on the driver's side door, or on the door frame in older model vehicles.
