Moving to a new home? Changing locations is exciting, despite the hard work involved. Once you're settled in your happy new home, you will want to let people know where you are. When you move within North Carolina, you must notify the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) within 60 days of moving.

Top Changing Your Address on Your Driver License

The procedure for changing your address on your driver license is the same as applying for a duplicate license when yours is lost or stolen. See our Replacing a Lost License page for complete information.

You can either go to a driver license office in person, or change your address online on the DMV Web site. You can use the online service to:

• Replace your lost or stolen license

• Replace your damaged license, or

• Change your residence or mailing address

There is a $10 fee for your replacement license, and your new license will be mailed to you.

Top Changing Your Address on Your Vehicle Title and Registration

Changing your address on your title or registration certificate is relatively simple. You just download the change of address form, fill it out, and mail it in. It will ask for specific vehicle information such as the year, make, and model of your car, its vehicle identification number (VIN), license plate number, title number, and handicapped placard number (if applicable). You must include your street address; a P.O. box alone is not acceptable.
