Court-Ordered Courses
If you got a traffic ticket and have been assigned to go to driver improvement school, the Oklahoma Safety Council, in conjunction with the State of Oklahoma Court System, offers an eight-hour online class. You can also try calling the State Department of Public Safety at (405)425-2424 and asking for the contact information to the nearest driver improvement school, or calling the court number on the back of your ticket.
Defensive Driving for Self-Improvement
The Safety Council also offers driver improvement courses. These six-hour, in-person courses happen twice a month. For other schools, call the State Department of Public Safety at (405) 425-2424.
Top Lowering Points and Dismissing Traffic Tickets
Taking a non-court ordered defensive driving class will take two points off your record once every two years. Fewer points mean cheaper insurance.
If you got a ticket and want to get it dismissed or get the points dismissed, ask the court if taking a defensive driving class will help you.
Costs
The cost for the online class, court-ordered class is $32.95. Traffic fines are payable separately, to the court.
For online, non-court ordered classes, the cost is $41.25 through the Oklahoma Safety Council. The in-person class runs $50 there.
Top Lowering Insurance Rates
Taking a Defensive Driving Class (sometimes known as a Motor Vehicle Accident Prevention course), even if you've never gotten a ticket, can be an easy way to lower your insurance rates. Call your insurance carrier for details.
Classes are based on National Safety Council standards and last eight hours. Take one online for $41.25 through the Oklahoma Safety Council; or in person for $50 (available in limited cities). If this isn't an option, call (405) 425-2424 and ask for the nearest driver improvement school in your county.
