    Top Who is Eligible?

Motorists are not the only ones who need identification for airline trips, applying for jobs and housing, and to generally prove their identity, age, and residence. If you don't drive, and live in Oregon, you can get a state-issued ID Card instead of a driver's license.

The Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) issues ID cards to Oregon residents, provided they do not already have a valid Oregon ID Card or current valid driver license or instruction permit from any state, including Oregon. There is no age restriction for obtaining an ID card in Oregon.

The identification required to obtain an ID card in Oregon, to be presented in person at the DMV, consists of:

    • Two primary documents, which can serve as proof of age, residence, and identity.
    • One additional primary document that includes name and date of birth, plus two secondary documents, which serve as proof of identity.

If you do not have an Oregon driver license, permit, or ID card, and one of the proofs of age or identity does not include your current address, you must present one additional document that is listed on the acceptable proof of residence address list.

    Top How to Apply

To obtain a non-driver identification card in Oregon, residents of the state must apply in person at a {ILocations & Hours{}DMV office} and do the following:

    • Present required proof of residence, age, and identity.
    • Fill out the Driver License/Identification Card Application.
    • Surrender any valid driver license or permit issued by any other jurisdiction or by Oregon.
    • Pay a $33.50 application fee.

    Top Renewing an ID Card

Oregon ID cards are valid for eight years from the time they are issued. To renew, you must visit any DMV office in person and:

    • Provide either your Social Security number or a signed Statement of No Social Security Number form.
    • Provide proper identification (as described above under Who is Eligible) and date of birth.
    • Provide proof of address only if your address has changed.
    • Pay a $29.50 renewal fee.

The Oregon DMV does not accept credit or debit cards, but it does accept checks with proper identification. Cash machines are also available at some DMV office locations.

    Top Replacing an ID Card

You must visit any DMV office in person to replace a lost, destroyed or stolen ID card. Be sure to bring:

    • Either your Social Security number or a signed Statement of No Social Security Number form.
    • Proper identification (as described above under Who is Eligible) and date of birth.
    • Proof of address only if your address has changed.
    • If applicable, proof of a name change.
    • Check or cash to pay a $28.50 replacement fee.

You're out of luck if you lose your ID while out of state. The DMV will not issue a new ID via mail. Obtaining a replacement ID can only be done in person.
